Care Y12 cover work  Mon 31 Jan 2011

Task 1:

For M1 ensure you have included some aspects of the following:

behaviourist, eg understanding challenging behaviour, changing/shaping behaviour;

social learning, eg promotion of anti-discriminatory behaviours and practices, use of positive role models in health education campaigns;

psychodynamic, eg understanding challenging behaviour, understanding and managing anxiety;

humanistic, eg empathy, understanding, respecting other individuals, active listening, non-judgemental approach;

cognitive, eg supporting individuals with learning difficulties, supporting individuals with emotional problems/depression/ post traumatic stress disorder;

biological, eg understanding developmental norms, understanding genetic predisposition to certain illnesses or health-related behaviours, understanding the effects of shift work on individuals

DO NOT just replicate the examples given here, use this to develop your own examples and arguments in favour of and against different psychological perspectives.

Task 2:

Prep for M2

Select one psychological approach you used in P2 and one from P3 to develop in greater detail.

Research these 2 perspectives in terms of the advice they would give to a local health and social care need, for example the need for a bigger teen talk centre in our school to deal with drug or alcohol use among teens and the related issues this causes in family/social life

Spend the time today gaining examples of recent health and social care initiatives that deal with your chosen issue. Ie; recent campaigns and their methods.

Interrogate the psychological perspectives you have chosen in terms of advising the new teen talk centre on methods of engagement with the young people.

Ie: what would the psychologists say would be effective.

NB: it is best if your chosen perspectives for M2 are different as this helps in D1.

You need to bring your research to lesson next Monday and should have M1 finished by then.  Feel free to email any M1 drafts if you wish.
